Today’s Students, Tomorrow’s Leaders

A postsecondary degree or credential has become a prerequisite to future career opportunities. Educational requirements in every industry are shifting, as businesses demand employees who possess skills typically associated with a four-year college degree.

Researchers estimate that by 2020 more than two-thirds of the available jobs in the United States will require some form of postsecondary education or training. At the current rate of higher education completion, however, the nation is expected to fall nearly 20 million degrees short of reaching this need.

In order for the United States to remain economically competitive, it must increase the number of people earning four-year degrees and credentials. At the heart of this challenge is addressing access and graduation rates for underrepresented populations in higher education.

Pathways to Social Change

On May 1, the Office of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (OVPDEI) worked in tandem with Pathways to Social Change to host a one-hour Zoom philanthropy education course. This event represented OVPDEI’s commitment to building a leadership pipeline, enhancing research and academic engagement, and fostering donor investment.
